Gorlok Registration and Orientation Workshops

GROW logo

Gorlok Registration and Orientation Workshops (GROW) is a way for students to meet other students, become familiar with campus services, and register for fall classes. Every student attending Webster University in the fall needs to attend a GROW event.

During COVID-19, in place of the GROW events, students will have an opportunity to participate in a one-on-one Virtual New Student Advising Appointment. The appointment will be with a Webster University Academic Advisor for one hour during which you will have the opportunity to discuss your major and select courses for the fall 2020 semester. Additionally, if you have any transfer credit, this will be discussed during your advising appointment. Prior to your appointment, you will have the opportunity to connect with an Admissions Counselor to review any initial questions you have about Webster University and set up your technology with the University. You will also receive a series of videos to help you understand the requirements of a degree including opportunities that you can engage in during your first semester such as a Learning Community.

Following your Virtual New Student Advising Appointment, the advisor will send you a follow up email and provide you with a checklist of activities to complete prior to attending Welcome Weekend in August.

If you have any questions for an advisor after your Virtual New Student Advising appointment, please email or call the Advising Center – advising@webster.edu or (314) 968-6972.

If parents or family members have questions about Welcome Weekend they can contact parents@webster.edu or 314-968-7007.

Webster’s goal is for you to immerse yourself in college life so that when you arrive on campus in the fall you can hit the ground running. GROW gives you the opportunity to make friends and become comfortable with navigating the campus.

Come GROW with us as we welcome you to Webster University!

We invite you to explore the option of participating in a dynamic learning community as part of your first-year experience at Webster University. Learning communities are groups of like-minded new students who choose to learn together, study together, and explore their fields of interest together.

The Learning Community (LC) program consists of co-enrolling students in purposefully paired courses in their first fall semester at Webster University. These courses are specifically selected for the learning community, and based on a topical interest or an area of academic study. Through these Learning Communities, you will participate in activities inside and outside of the classroom that will enhance your learning and a greater connection to the Webster University community. Global Cornerstone Seminars at Webster University are designed to help students improve their abilities to integrate, transfer, make connections among, and apply knowledge -- in short, to become great thinkers who are prepared for responsible global citizenship. A Global Cornerstone Seminar is required for all new full-time degree-seeking freshmen (who have not previously matriculated at another post- secondary institution or who have fewer than 16 credit hours of college credit and who are also younger than 20 years old). It is open only to students who are newly matriculated to Webster University. At the home campus in Webster Groves, it is offered only in the Fall semester. Online Orientation

Attention incoming Gorloks:

We are excited for you to join the Gorlok family and orientation is the start of the journey. Orientation is required for all incoming fall admitted first year students and is designed to provide you with information about academic resources, campus resources, student life, safety, and much more!

Due to the ongoing concerns of COVID-19, we have decided it is in the best interest of our incoming students and their families to transition all new student orientation sessions from in-person experiences to a virtual format. This Online New Student Orientation Experience is replacing the traditional Welcome Weekend Experience that normally happens this time of year. Your safety and well-being are our main priority. We also realize that these are unprecedented times filled with dynamic changes. We want to keep you as informed as possible regarding your virtual orientation, we will be updating our website with helpful information throughout the coming weeks.

Students and their Families should have received an email about the new online format. The following link will take you to your Online New Student Orientation Experience: https://orientation.webster.edu

We know you are excited to start connecting with other students and we are expanding opportunities for you to virtually interact with other Gorloks throughout the summer. If you have questions or need assistance, please contact us at welcome@webster.edu or call 314-246-2598.

The following checklist is important information to help you the student to make sure that your on boarding is smooth and efficient.
